Drought Appeal 2015/16

About the Namibia drought emergency appeal

Namibia is experiencing the worst drought in over 30 years and it is estimated that more than 500 000 people are in need of food aid. Most of them are struggling to find food, suffering from malnutrition and selling their assets just to survive.

The Namibia Red Cross Society on the 14th of October 2015 lauched an emergency appeal amounting to CHF 954,827 (N$13,4 million) to source for funding for 11,500 people (3200 households) in regions such as Kunene, Kavango, Oshikoto and Ohangwena.

The National Society is currently operating soup kitchens in Kunene and Kavango with intentions to expand to more regions if more funds are mobilised. The National Society also launched a fundraising and communication campaign the Namibians Helpind Namibians Campaign aimed at mobilising local support for the drought response activities.
